Spring Outing at Turk Mountain Vineyards

For our die-hard Turk Mountain Vineyards fans, owners Edda and Gilbert Tallard have graciously agreed to open up their property for a Spring Outing! Explore this beautiful mountaintop vineyard on Sunday May 24th (Memorial Day Weekend) and sample three vintages of the Turk Mountain Tour d’Afton – described by Gilbert as “a totally honest wine without fuss or artifice”. Tickets are $15/person and much be purchased in advance. Tours and tastings will run on the hour from 2pm until 6pm. Please note that this is a private property and is not handicap accessible. Wine will not be available for onsite consumption other than tastings, although you are welcome to purchase bottles to take home. For more information, see our webstore.

Spring Blending Class with Matthieu Finot

Wine blending tests the true skills of a winemaker and is an important part of maintaining consistency between vintages. Renowned Virginia winemaker and Stinson winemaking consultant Matthieu Finot hosts our 5th annual PVCC Wine Blending class. Finot will share his secrets on the art of blending wines in pursuit of the perfect 2014 Stinson Vineyards Meritage! Students will break into groups and each group will develop their own blend. We will then blind taste and vote on favorites. Cost is $59/person. 2012 Chardonnay “Editors’ Choice” in October 2014 Wine Enthusiast Magazine

The 2012 Chardonnay has been rated 87 points and designated as “Editors’ Choice” in the October 2014 issue of Wine Enthusiast Magazine. Andrew Hoover elaborates in the review: “Toasted pasty-crust and macadamia nut notes frame core aromas of white orchard fruits. The palate tastes concentrated and feels round, and snappy acids invigorate the finish”.

We have to agree with The Rock Barn‘s credos: “Pigs are delicious. There is perhaps no animal that boasts as rich a culinary tradition as the pig. All over the world, hogs are being transformed into dishes that are synonymous with local flavor”.  As longtime fans of their respectful sourcing and craft cuts of these animals, we are excited to bring Rock Barn products into our Tasting Room. These include some of our favorite smoked options such as bacon, smoked sausages, and hams as well as fresh items such as pork loins and fresh sausages.
